- Hermes II Upgrade Procedure
-
- 1. Upgrade to Hermes v2.2 before starting this upgrade.
- 2. Print out the Hermes II Docs. You WILL need them.
- 3. Make a backup of your Hermes Files folder. Work ONLY on an extra copy
- as your Hermes Files data will be overwritten.
- 4. Put "Update Phone" external in the Externals folder.
- 5. Launch the Update II application and select your old "Hermes Shared" file.
- 6. Remove the following "outdated" files.
- 1. All files from the Externals folder.
- 2. All files (not the folders) from the Hermes Files folder.
- 7. Set memory allocation for Hermes II.
- 8. Launch Hermes II and select "System Prefs" in Shared Files folder.
- 9. Enter your Hermes II serial number.
- 10. Select "Security Levels" and complete settings for each SL you use.
- 11. Set the "New User Classification" from the "New User" menu.
- 12. Check and set "System Preferences" setup.
- 13. Select Node Prefs and enter the new info for each node.
- 14. Make a "safety backup" of your Shared Files folder.
- 15. Read the Hermes II docs for all the new changes.
-
- Update Notes:
-
- The updater will likely take several minutes. If there is a problem, you
- will get error codes. The updater deletes outdated files in the Data folder,
- so you can run the updater only once on a Hermes Files folder. Therefore, it
- is imperative that you always have a backup copy of "Hermes Files".
-
- Although you must remove all old external applications, you may be able to
- use the old data files associated with some externals. Check with each
- external author for details.
-
- When entering your Hermes II serial number, if you hear a beep, that means
- that the number was not accepted. The likely cause for this is a leading or
- trailing carriage return or space. If you hear no sound, that indicates that
- the number was accepted.
-
- Your "Hermes Files" folder should contain the following 9 folders:
-
- Data
- Externals
- Files (Unless you had your transfers in another folder)
- Forms
- GFiles
- Logs
- Messages
- Misc
- Shared Files
-
- Your "Shared Files" folder should contain the following 9 files:
-
- Gfiles
- Messages
- Modem Drivers

- Strings

- Transfers
- Users
-
- Your "Misc" folder should contain the following 5 files:
-
- Auto Message
- BBS List
- Brief Log
- Last Users
- Trash Users.
-
- After use, your Misc folder will contain these additional files:
-
