  1.                  Hermes II Upgrade Procedure

  3. 1.  Upgrade to Hermes v2.2 before starting this upgrade.
  4. 2.  Print out the Hermes II Docs.  You WILL need them.
  5. 3.  Make a backup of your Hermes Files folder.  Work ONLY on an extra copy
  6.     as your Hermes Files data will be overwritten.
  7. 4.  Put "Update Phone" external in the Externals folder.
  8. 5.  Launch the Update II application and select your old "Hermes Shared" file.
  9. 6.  Remove the following "outdated" files.
  10.     1.  All files from the Externals folder.
  11.     2.  All files (not the folders) from the Hermes Files folder.
  12. 7.  Set memory allocation for Hermes II.
  13. 8.  Launch Hermes II and select "System Prefs" in Shared Files folder.
  14. 9.  Enter your Hermes II serial number.
  15. 10.  Select "Security Levels" and complete settings for each SL you use.
  16. 11. Set the "New User Classification" from the "New User" menu.
  17. 12. Check and set "System Preferences" setup.
  18. 13. Select Node Prefs and enter the new info for each node. 
  19. 14. Make a "safety backup" of your Shared Files folder.
  20. 15. Read the Hermes II docs for all the new changes.

  22.                        Update Notes: 
  23.  
  24. The updater will likely take several minutes.  If there is a problem, you 
  25. will get error codes.  The updater deletes outdated files in the Data folder,
  26. so you can run the updater only once on a Hermes Files folder. Therefore, it 
  27. is imperative that you always have a backup copy of "Hermes Files".
  28.  
  29. Although you must remove all old external applications, you may be able to
  30. use the old data files associated with some externals.  Check with each
  31. external author for details.
  32.  
  33. When entering your Hermes II serial number, if you hear a beep, that means
  34. that the number was not accepted.  The likely cause for this is a leading or
  35. trailing carriage return or space.  If you hear no sound, that indicates that
  36. the number was accepted.

  38. Your "Hermes Files" folder should contain the following 9 folders:
  39.  
  40.     Data
  41.     Externals
  42.     Files (Unless you had your transfers in another folder)
  43.     Forms
  44.     GFiles
  45.     Logs
  46.     Messages
  47.     Misc
  48.     Shared Files
  49.  
  50. Your "Shared Files" folder should contain the following 9 files:

  53.     Messages
  54.     Modem Drivers
  55.     Nodes
  56.     Strings
  57.     System Prefs
  58.     Text
  59.     Transfers
  60.     Users

  62. Your "Misc" folder should contain the following 5 files:

  65.     BBS List  
  66.     Brief Log  
  67.     Last Users  
  68.     Trash Users.

  70. After use, your Misc folder will contain these additional files:

  72.     Temp Logs (online users)
  73.     Today Log
  74.     Usage Record  (Do not put the old Usage Record back in. It is outdated.)
